PARAGRAPH PUBLISHING ANNOUNCES 2024 CHARITABLE DONATIONS

17th December 2024
Paragraph Publishing is pleased to reveal the list of charitable donations given throughout the year of 2024, with the sole intention of supporting these organisations and to help them with their tireless and important work.

£2,000 has been donated to the Marine and Wildlife Rescue fund, a Norfolk-based charity established in 1990. The organisation responds to wildlife rescue incidents — approximately 1,000 a year — as well assisting other charity groups with transfers to other centres.

Dan Goldsmith of the Marine and Wildlife Rescue fund commented on Paragraph’s donation: “We are incredibly grateful for the donation received from Paragraph. Without this support, organisations such as ours simply could not exist. We have recently undertaken a project to expand our facilities at our site near Beccles in Suffolk. Paragraph's donation will help significantly to conclude this sooner, and ensure that our equipment is safe and secure across the counties."

£,5000 has been donated to the Worshipful Company of Distillers, of which Paragraph Publishing has worked closely with for a number of years, in particular on the organisation’s yearly Distillate newsletter. The Distilllers’ Charity prioritises transforming the lives of young people, and their mission includes granting 100% of raised funds to support selected charities.

Jonny Roberts of the Distillers’ charity said: “We'd like to thank the team at Paragraph Publishing for their donation which will help us further our work in vocational training and education within the distilling industry, support The Lord Mayor's Appeal and other charities in London, improving the life chances of young people in some of our most disadvantaged communities.”

Another sizeable donation of £5,000 was given to The Drinks Trust, a charity dedicated to the drinks and hospitality workforce. It aims to empower the people in the industry through services designed to assist financially and develop skills.

Alessandra Brugola, Marketing Manager at the Drinks Trust, thanked Paragraph for its support: “Paragraph’s generous donation will make a lasting impact by providing essential support to those in need. It will enable us to offer financial assistance, a 24/7 confidential support line, wellbeing services and an education programme. With your support, we can continue to empower industry people in need of our help, create sustainable opportunities, and foster hope for a better future. Thank you for making a difference!”

Other organisations donated to throughout the year of 2024 include £2,500 to East Anglia-based not-for-profit fostering service Break, which looks after children on both short-term and long-term basis’, and £1,000 to Nelson’s Journey, again based in Norfolk which supports children and young people through bereavement.

Lastly, Paragraph Publishing also donated to a fundraising 5 Peaks Challenge undertook by the Evans-Lombe family — Atticus, along with his brothers Alex and Arthur, and their father Nick in support — to raise money for the BrainWaves project.

The family took part in the challenge on 16 August, which involved climbing the highest peaks in each of the five countries of the British Isles within 48 hours.

Last year, the Evans-Lombe suffered an unimaginable loss as Alfred, the brother of Atticus, Alex, and Arthur, took his own life. Alfred worked at Paragraph Publishing and is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and colleagues for his immense kindness and his humour.

The BrainWaves charity is a response to the growing number of young people experiencing mental health issues, led by a group of academics, educationalists and philanthropists at the University of Oxford’s department of psychiatry.

The research conducted by the project is an important component in gaining better understanding of adolescent mental health, through developing therapies specifically aimed at that demographic. It also aims to equip schools and educate professionals with evidence-based resources to better care for the wellbeing of young people.
